Downloading K-1s: MLP Strategy and Drill Bit to Burner Tip®*

An interested party, such as the owner, the CPA or Advisor can access the K-1s by going to Tax Package Support at www.taxpackagesupport.com. The required information is:

Click on one of the links from the K-1 list (see sidebar), register once with your name and a password you create, then go to each MLP and,

  • Input the name
  • Input the tax ID
  • Download the K-1s

Downloading the K-1 into Turbo Tax
Almost all the MLPs interface with Turbo Tax, but some do not. To import the K-1 from Tax Package Support or Partner Data Link:

  • Open up your Turbo Tax software.
  • Then open your internet browser and go to www.taxpackagesupport.com or www.partnerdatalink.com.
  • Click on the MLP and log in. Then access tax package.
  • On top right you will see a red Turbo Tax logo. Click the logo.
  • A box appears. (At the top of the box is a link that will take you to instructions.)
  • Go to the bottom of the box and hit OK. Save the file in an area you can retrieve.
  • Open Turbo Tax. Click on top right "FILE", then select "IMPORT", and a window opens next to it. Select: From accounting software. Hit continue. Find the file you just saved on your computer and import.

To request an email of K-1s
Interested parties can contact www.taxpackagesupport.com (which is part of PricewaterhouseCoopers), by calling one of the MLPs listed there; for example 800-599-9985 for Enterprise Products Partners. Tax Package Support is open and taking calls from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Central Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

The Tax Package Support person who answers can help with all of the MLPs at Tax Package Support. You can ask that person to email you the K-1s for all the related MLPs. The Tax Package Support person will ask you for the information noted above, and may ask you to fax in the same information if it is a large request. They will then email to you the K-1s, usually within half a day.

Help with name, address changes and other concerns
Tax Package Support or Partner Data Link can also help you with many K-1 problems, such as address change, wrong name, transaction dates, etc. Most problems can be solved over the phone after the identification process noted above.

Partner Data Link, www.partnerdatalink.com (which is part of Deloitte), manages the K-1s for a few of the MLPs in Miller/Howard portfolios and operates in the same way as Tax Package Support. Partner Data Link is open and taking calls from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Central Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

Final K-1
If the Final K-1 box on the top of the first page of K-1 Form 1065 is checked, then all of the units of this MLP are sold. The owner will not get future K-1s unless he/she buys again.
